I am writing this Fantasy novel that's being created exclusively for the iPhone™ and iPod touch™ in my native German language. But hoping for the heavy weather of “Raintown” to reach the world I am looking for an English native speaker to translate “Regen über der Stadt” to her mother tongue while the story unfolds.
"Raintown" is a huge success in the German App Store and after its first month the bestselling modern novel in the eBook Top-100.
The offer:
To the future translator of “Regen über der Stadt” I offer:
- 45% of my revenue for the English version App sales worldwide (that's 31.5% of the App price with Apple's current conditions), billable after proceeds have been paid by Apple. (The prologue and first chapter will be available at no cost. For the pricing of the main App see the Project Page.)
- monthly sales reports
- front cover credits for the translation
- an exciting App Store adventure
While I can handle a little English myself and will definitely read through the translation I can not edit and correct it as such. So you might want to have someone proof read your work before submitting it for publication, but that will be your own responsibility.
You love iPhone OS and Fantasy writing? Let's talk!
If you like the story and style of “Regen über der Stadt” (check out the preview App here (external)) and would like to translate it to English, see if you meet these requirements:
- native English speaker
- fluent German reader
- of legal age in your country
- able to present proof of talent (previously written work)
- able to translate each chapter within two weeks
- agreeing to be named and promoted as official English translator for the project
- agreeing to have the translated work published by mschomerus on the App Store worldwide
How to apply:
You can then apply by sending an eMail to raintownATmschomerusDOTcom answering the following questions:
- What are your three favourite fantasy novels and for what reason?
- What do you like most in the first chapter of “Regen über der Stadt”?
- What is your proof of talent and why have you chosen this piece? (Please attach one written work of 5 pages maximum, PDF preferred)
If you pass this first impression I will send you an RTF file of the prologue of “Regen über der Stadt”, which you should translate and send back within a week. All contact information and work received during this application process will remain confidential, will be used for the evaluation only and will be deleted after the process is closed. (Except for the work and contact of the chosen one, of course.)
While the German Raintown-Project will begin end of September with the release of the first two chapters, there is no fixed deadline for the English version. It will commence when I have found a suitable translator. The earlier you apply the better are your chances to get the job – and start the rain.
